Diocese plans Lenten retreat for RCIA March 24

The diocesan Department of Catechesis will sponsor a Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Lenten retreat for candidates, catechumens and RCIA team members March 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jesus, the Good Shepherd Church, St. Peter Campus, Bridgboro and Hancock Sts., Riverside.

The daylong event is for all involved in the RCIA process, and will include presenter Father Javier Diaz, pastor of Christ the King Parish, Long Branch, who will speak on “The Seven Last Words of Christ.”

Father Diaz, a native of Colombia, studied for the priesthood at Mount St. Mary Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md. Since ordination, he has served as parochial vicar of St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton; St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Hightstown; and as pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Trenton. He was also director of the former diocesan Office of the Hispanic Apostolate.  Prior to his pastorate at Christ the King Parish, Father Diaz spent three years studying at Santa Croce University, Rome, where he earned his license in Canon Law.

Check in for the retreat begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a light breakfast at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided as well. Stations of the Cross will take place at 2:30 p.m.
