Just as the Holy Family overcame serious adversities, people can rely on their faith to overcome the challenges they face at home, within their community and throughout society.

Such was the sentiments expressed by Msgr. Thomas N. Gervasio when he addressed the gathering who attended a Holy Hour for Families the evening of Feb. 12 in St. Anthony Church, a worship site of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Hamilton. The Holy Hour was the first of four to be celebrated within the Diocese of Trenton in preparation for the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.

"Family life is a great life, but it can also be chaotic...No family is perfect; no wife is perfect, no husband is perfect," said Msgr. Gervasio, who is diocesan vicar general and moderator of the curia, as he cited the importance of love and expressions of true remorse and forgiveness as ways to handle family difficulties. He and other speakers talked on the importance of adhering to related messages from Pope Francis and the bishops -- that people must speak up against societal assaults on the family, such as "culture of death" laws and harmful and negative depictions of family life in the media and the entertainment industry.

The other three Holy Hour for Families are set for June 25 in St. John Neumann Church, Mount Laurel, Burlington County; July 23 in St. Joseph Church, Toms River, Ocean County, and Sept, 3 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, a worship site of Christ the King Parish, Long Branch.
