Diocesan statement on the retirement of Father Brian J. McCormick and the future relationship with the inner-city social service agency, Martin House
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Over the years, Father Brian J. McCormick, as director of Martin House, facilitated the gradual transfer of operational responsibility for the agency to the institution itself so that, in fact, it had ceased to be a diocesan operation.
With the future of Martin House now in the hands of its boards, that process has now been completed.
Father McCormick is moving from Martin House to the Diocese of Trenton’s residence for retired priests in Lawrenceville, ending his long and very successful tenure as director of the social service agency. Although he is of retirement age, Father McCormick will continue to serve the diocese’s pastoral needs in ways that have not yet been finalized.
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., has expressed the diocese’s profound admiration for and gratitude to Father McCormick for his decades-long, steady and unwavering efforts to build a stable program of service to the needy of Trenton through Martin House.
“He is an incredible priest,” remarked Bishop O’Connell, “who has demonstrated truly Christ-like ministry. Knowing him, that ministry will continue to unfold in the diocese in wonderful ways. Martin House stands on a firm foundation, thanks to him and his associates there, and continues to deserve the support of people of all faiths for the great work it does.”
