Deadline approaches for spring FOCUS mission trips

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

College students have until Nov. 30 to apply for mission trips through FOCUS, a national outreach organization which invites them to use their time away from their studies to step outside their comfort zones and encounter Christ by serving the poor around the world.

Since 2004, FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, has organized more than 150 mission trips for nearly 2,500 college students and FOCUS staff. Students act as missionaries to the faith, living and working among the poor in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America during eight-day trips scheduled to coincide with their winter and spring semester breaks. During the 2014-2015 academic year, FOCUS will host 70 trips to 32 countries for more than 1,200 students.

FOCUS staff member Laura Scharmer, in her article “Seven Reasons You Should Say Yes to a Mission Trip, “wrote, “As Americans, we tend to think we’re the center of the world. You may be able to Google poverty statistics in India, health needs in Mexico or evangelistic initiatives in Russia…but it’s not the same as sharing the beautiful message of the Gospel.”

The deadline to apply for spring semester mission trips held early next year is Nov. 30. Mission trip applications and other information about FOCUS may be found on their website at www.focus.org.
