Deacon William J. Murray, formerly served in three Monmouth County parishes

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in Mary, Mother of the Light Marionite Church, Tequesta, Fla., for Deacon William J. Murray who died May 10 in his home in Lake Worth, Fla.
Deacon Murray was ordained a deacon for the Diocese of Trenton May 14, 1977 by Bishop George W. Ahr in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. In the Diocese he served in St. Mary Parish, Deal; Holy Spirit Parish, Asbury Park, and Precious Blood Parish, Monmouth Beach. He relocated to the Diocese of Palm Beach, Fla., in 2008 and for the past several years served as a deacon in Mary, Mother of the Light Maronite Church.
Deacon Murray retired from the American Red Cross as CEO of the Jersey Coast Chapter, a position he held for close to three decades. In Florida he held the rank of volunteer major of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department, helping to oversee volunteer deputies throughout South Florida.
He is survived by his children, William Jr., of Wilmington, N.C.; JaLyn (Cipriano) Apicelli of Kenosha, Wisc; Richard (Amanda) of West Allenhurst, and Christian of Eatontown, and nine grandchildren.
