Funeral services for Deacon Robert John Klein will be held Sept. 6 and 7 in St. Mary Church, 747 West Bay Ave., Barnegat. Deacon Klein died Sept. 2 in Souther Ocean Medical Center, Stafford Township at age 82.

Visiting hours will be Sept. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Kenard Tuzeneu, pastor of St. Mary Parish, Barnegat, serving as principal celebrant.

Born in the Bronx and raised in the Queens section of New York City, Deacon Klein graduated from Cranford High School in 1953 and Rutgers University in 1963. He served in the United States Army for three years in the finance department at Fort Benning, Ga. He also worked as a financial manager for Nabisco, East Hanover, until he retired.

He was ordained a deacon for the Metuchen Diocese in 1996 and served as a deacon in Sacred Heart Parish, South Amboy. Upon moving to the Trenton Diocese, he was incardinated in 2008 and ministered first in St. Pius X Parish, Forked River, and then St. Mary Parish, Barnegat.

Predeceased by his brother, Richard, who died in 2011, Deacon Klein is survived by his wife of 58 years, June; a son John (Liese); daughters Susan and Lisa; four grandsons and a sister.

Memorial donations may be made to Yamba Uganda Ministry of St. Mary Parish, 747 West Bay Ave., Barnegat, N.J. 08005.
