Deacon Robert D. Machion, 73

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 27 in Holy Assumption Church, Roebling, for Deacon Robert D. Machion Sr., who died Sept. 21 in Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia. He was 73.
Born in Florence, Deacon Machion resided there before moving to Columbus 37 years ago. He was a carpenter, employed by the Carpenters Local #1489, Burlington, with 45 years of service.
Deacon Machion was ordained a deacon May 15, 1982, by Bishop John C. Reiss in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton.
At Sts. Francis and Clare Parish, Deacon Machion was involved in the Holy Name Society in which he was a past president. He was also an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, moderator of the Altar-Rosary Society, a member of the pastoral council and Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was also active in the former Holy Assumption School.
Deacon Machion is the son of the late Dominick and Phyllis Picotti Machion.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bertha “Babs” Getczi Machion; six children and their spouses: Ginny and Jeff Glassman, Robert D. Jr. and Michele Machion, Chrissy and Gabriel Quilaqueo, Dom and Lauri Machion, Ann Marie Machion and Joseph Machion; 11 grandchildren; his mother and father-inlaw, an uncle and several cousins.
