Deacon John F. Groffie, at 77

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 24 in St. Gregory the Great Church, Hamilton Square, for Deacon John F. Groffie, who died June 18 in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton. He was 77.
Born in Trenton, Deacon Groffie attended Sts. Peter and Paul School, Trenton; Cathedral High School, Trenton, and Rider University, Lawrenceville.
He retired from the State of New Jersey and was ordained a deacon in 1982 by Bishop John C. Reiss in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. Deacon Groffie was a member of many groups and organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and was a Cub Scout leader for St. Gregory the Great Parish.
Deacon Groffie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Lambert Groffie; two sons and daughtersin- law, Peter and Cynthia, and Paul and Trish; a daughter and son-inlaw, Margaret and Pete Michas; one brother; one sister-in-law; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
