Deacon John David Grant, served in St. Alphonsus Parish, Hopewell

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 20 in St. Alphonsus Church, Hopewell, for Deacon John David Grant who died July 15 in Merwick Rehabilitation Center, Plainsboro. He was 69.
Deacon Grant was born in Utica, N.Y. and had been a resident of Hopewell for the past 32 years. A 1953 graduate of Olean High School, Olean, N.Y., he earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering in 1968 from the University of Detroit; a master of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1970, and a master of arts degree in theology from Seton Hall University, South Orange, in 2010.
Deacon Grant worked for four major chemical companies including DuPont and Air Products. In 1975, he founded Guernsey Engineers, Inc. He served as the laboratory and waste water treatment director for the town of Tishing, Mass. He was ordained a permanent deacon for the Trenton Diocese May 8, 1999 in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton, by Bishop John M. Smith and was assigned to St. Alphonsus Parish. He was also a member of the Hopewell Council, Knights of Columbus.
Son of the late Albert M. and Ruth Cavellier Grant, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonita Craft Grant, and a brother Terrance E. (Donna) Grant of Olean, N.Y.
Burial was private.
