Deacon James Edward McKeon, served in Marlboro, Englishtown parishes

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated June 14 in St. Gabriel Church, Marlboro, for Deacon James Edward McKeon, 82, who died June 7.

Born in Queens, N.Y., Deacon McKeon was the youngest of six children born to Martin and Mary McKeon. He served in the Navy and then went to St. John’s University, Jamaica, N.Y. He worked for the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey for more than 30 years and also attended Fordham Law School at night where he earned a law degree.

Deacon McKeon was ordained a deacon for the Diocese of Trenton by Bishop John C. Reiss May 17, 1990, in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. As a deacon, he ministered in St. Gabriel Parish, Marlboro, and Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Englishtown, prior to his relocating to Williamsburg, Va., in the Diocese of Richmond. He relocated again to Baltimore.

Deacon McKeon was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa McKeon. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; five children, Mary Joan (Joseph) Maffia, Bernadette (Brian) Henry, James (Anda), Bridget (Walter) Vohs, and Sheila (Keith) Faulcon, and 12 grandchildren.

Interment was to be in St. Gabriel Parish Cemetery.
