The Mercer County CYO has partnered with Hamilton Township to allow children ages five through 14 to continue receiving free, nutritious lunches throughout the summer.

During a press conference June 10, Hamilton Township mayor Kelly Yaede joined with CYO executive director Thomas G. Mladenetz to announce the summer food program, which will provide the children lunches at the Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center which began late last month and continues through mid-August.

The program, funded by a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture grant and believed to be the first of its kind in Hamilton, also partners with Mercer Street Friends, another CYO-run nonprofit which coordinates a local food bank.

On sunny summer days, children registered for the program will be able to enjoy lunch at the center’s picnic tables, which surround a brand new playground set.

Lunch will be served inside the center during inclement weather.

“This new program will benefit the health of our local children from all across our community, including many children from the Bromley neighborhood,” explained Yaede.

Thomas Mladenetz, CYO Mercer executive director, added, “We are excited to be able to provide this beneficial service at the Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center. I believe this partnership between CYO of Mercer, Hamilton Township and Mercer Street Friends will make a true difference for children across Hamilton Township.”

Hamilton parents must supply proof of residency to participate in the program.
