CYO receives grant from MAXIMUS Foundation for hip-hop

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The Catholic Youth Organization of Mercer County recently received a grant award from The MAXIMUS Foundation, for a hip-hop dance program to be initiated in one of CYO’s before/after school programs based in a Hamilton Township public school.

CYO serves 180 children daily in before/after school programs in Lalor, Greenwood, Klockner and Wilson schools, consisting of supervised enrichment activities, including homework time, indoor learning centers (modeling clay, Legos, puzzles, board games, etc.), and outside time (weather permitting), with organized team building activities and free play.

CYO had hip-hop programs in its two Trenton site summer camps for 2014, and their popularity led to the idea of bringing them to the Hamilton schools.

CYO executive director, Tom Mladenetz, said,  “CYO is pleased that the MAXIMUS Foundation recognizes what CYO provides to the community and appreciates their support so that we can expand our services.”
