CYO of Mercer receives grant for new bus

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Mercer County recently received a $20,000 grant award from The James Kerney Foundation, for the purchase of a new bus. CYO serves more than 1,100 children daily in pre-schools, before and after school programs and summer camps, at nine sites in Trenton, Hamilton and Ewing. Transportation service is an integral element of CYO’s programs, providing the vital link between program sites and participants’ home/school, as well as for program excursions.

The vehicle being replaced is a 54-passenger bus, mandated by State law for retirement by the end of 2014. It will be replaced with a smaller vehicle that is more versatile and more easily able to negotiate Trenton’s city streets, so that CYO’s transportation service can continue at the required level, as safely and efficiently as possible.

“The Kerney Foundation has been a major supporter of several CYO initiatives over the years,” said CYO executive director, Tom Mladenetz. “It has indeed been a blessing to so many non-profit entities in the Trenton area. The CYO is truly grateful for their support.”
