The group Faith in Monmouth County will sponsor a grassroots leadership training session to combat injustice Aug. 5 in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, Freehold.
A division of Faith in New Jersey, the interfaith group of clergy and lay people strives to inform and mobilize those who find themselves in unjust situations.
“The training is for anyone of any faith who wants to know practical ways to stand with the more vulnerable members of society,” explained Jennifer Schlameuss-Perry, pastoral associate in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral. “The training will offer tools for advocacy, solidarity, political action and meeting the material needs of those who are insecure.”
Schlameuss-Perry noted training for members will be ongoing via periodic workshops, and said, “Many people want to help, but don’t know how. This is a first step in learning how to get into the trenches that Pope Francis spoke of, and to really make a difference in their community for people who don’t have a voice.
“The more people we can involve in caring for the poor in the exact ways that Jesus told us to, the better.”
The training is set for 6 to 9:30 p.m. There is no fee, and registration is not required, but those wishing to attend are urged to contact Schlameuss-Perry at 732-462-7429 ext. 141 to reserve a seat at the meeting. St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral is located at 61 Georgia Road, Freehold.
