Champion for Life dinner to honor Holy Innocents parishioner

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The Monmouth Coastal Respect Life Committee will hold its 24th annual Champion for Life Award Dinner Oct. 27 in Doolan’s Shore Club, 700 Highway 71, Spring Lake Heights. The evening will begin with a reception from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner.

Following in the footsteps of those honored before her for their dedication to life, this year’s “Champion for Life” to be honored is Marian H. Flaherty.  Flaherty, a member of Holy Innocents Parish, Neptune, has 10 children, 33 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  Her faith and family is where she finds joy.  Her late husband of 50 years shared her compassion for the dignity of life, often joining her as a volunteer.  Throughout her life she has shared her time, compassion, talents and energy with the Church and her community.

In 1978, Flaherty co-founded the Red Bank Birthright Chapter, where she continues to serve as a volunteer.  Her volunteer work extended to a foundling hospital in Jersey City where she cared for babies who were up for adoption.

Flaherty’s belief in the dignity of life was exemplified with her participation in the annual Right to Life March in Washington, where, in the ‘70s and early ‘80s she had a leadership role.

In their recommendation to the MCRL committee, Flaherty’s children noted that their mother has shown her belief in the dignity of life with her unselfish ways, kind and caring compassion for anyone in need, her dedication to her church and community, participation and volunteerism in numerous organizations and her love for her own family and endless encouragement to teach those around her about the dignity of life.

The cost for the dinner is adults, $45, students, $35, children, $20.  Reservations are required. For further information call Adelaide Sangiorgi at 732-974-9408.

The Monmouth Coastal Respect Life Committee consists of the following parishes; St. Catharine-St. Margaret, Spring Lake; St. Denis, Manasquan; St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Avon-by-the-Sea; Holy Innocents, Neptune; St. Mark, Sea Girt, and St. Rose, Belmar.
