Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, sponsored the 38th annual Brother Christian Jones Eighth Grade Mathematics Contest Oct. 17. The contest was named for Brother Jones, chairman emeritus of the mathematics department at CBA and the founder and long-time host of the event.

Patrick Melosh, chairman of the school’s math department, served as host of the contest, which involved eighth grade students competing for awards in basic mathematics and algebra-based questions. Thirty-eight private and public schools were featured.

Reflecting on the history of the contest, Melosh said that it was Brother Christian’s “love for math and students that led to his starting the contest.”
