The Diocese of Trenton will live stream the Catholic Schools Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 15. It can be viewed at www.dioceseoftrenton.org/csm, and on the home page of The Trenton Monitor website, www.trentonmonitor.com.
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will be principal celebrant of the Mass to be held in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton. An estimated 800 students, teachers, principals and others are projected to attend this annual celebration of Catholic education. Attendance is by invitation only; the cathedral will not be open to the general public for this special Mass.
Representatives from Catholic school communities across Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties will take an active role in the Mass. Students will carry school banners in the opening procession, and participate in the Mass as altar servers, gift and flag bearers, readers and members of the music ministry. Sixteen clergy are expected to concelebrate the Mass with the Bishop.
In recognition of October as being World Mission Month, when the universal Church honors missionaries and their work throughout the world, the theme of missions will be incorporated in the Mass. During the procession of the gifts, students will carry artifacts reflecting mission work worldwide, also, Sister Lisa Marie Valenti, a member of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Father Peter James Alindogan, director of the diocesan Office of Missions and pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Cinnaminson, will speak about mission work.
Rosaries will be distributed to the students, and they will be led in a decade of the prayers before Mass.
Two schools of the Diocese lauded this year by the United States Department of Education will be recognized at the Mass. JoAnn Tier, diocesan moderator for the Office of Catholic Education and superintendent of Catholic schools, will announce the recipients of the 2015 Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence: Holy Cross School, Rumson, and Our Lady of Good Counsel School, Moorestown.
