Bishop John M. Smith of the Diocese of Trenton has expressed his condolences to the family of Daniel G. Falco, and the communities of St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, and St. Mary Parish, Middletown, on the death of the 15-year-old honors student and athlete. Daniel died Sept. 28 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center following a brief illness.

According to Steven DiMezza, SJVHS principal, counselors were made available for several days to help students deal with their grief.  He added that Daniel was a well-liked student, who played on the football and wrestling teams in addition to his academic and extracurricular activities.

DiMezza stated, “The community is grieving the loss of one of our own. In times like these, one appreciates even more the ability a Catholic school community has to turn to its faith. An outpouring of support has been shown by the entire student body and staff.”

Stressing that Daniel will not be forgotten, DiMezza said, “The community plans to honor Dan’s memory throughout this school year and into the future with a memorial prayer garden.”

Visiting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct 1; 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Oct 2, and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 3 in John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindal Road, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Oct. 3 at 11:45 a.m. in Mary Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road, New Monmouth.
