Catholic Athletes for Christ leadership conference planned in Lawrenceville

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

This fall, as classes resume and students get back into the flow of the school year, some young men and women will come together to blend athletics and their common faith.

The fifth annual High School Leadership Conference for Catholic Athletes for Christ will be held Sept. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The conference will be hosted in the Diocese of Trenton Chancery, Lawrenceville, as well as the adjacent Notre Dame High School.

The program is designed to encourage the young adults to make the connection between their Catholic faith and athletics. Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will bless the special pins that will be provided to participants, and Msgr. Richard LaVerghetta, pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Marlton, will offer a presentation to the attendees.

The Catholic Athletes for Christ program has amassed an impressive population of more than 1,700 students across the Diocese of Trenton.

According to the national organization – of which Bishop O’Connell is a member of the episcopal board – Catholic Athletes for Christ was founded “to provide an integrated network of sports oriented clergy and lay people to serve Catholic athletes, coaches, and staff in the practice of their faith and to utilize the unique platform given to them to reach the world for Jesus Christ and His Church.”
