Carol Ann Babuschak, wife of deacon, former Donovan Catholic educator

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Toms River, for Carol Ann (Weisgarber) Babuschak, who died July 22 at age 73. She was the wife of Deacon Francis Babuschak, who ministers in St. Joseph Parish.

Born in Trenton, Mrs. Babuschak worked as a porcelain artist at Boehm Porcelain, Ewing; as an art teacher in St. Thomas Christian Academy, Brick, and as a former religion and fine and performing arts teacher in Donovan Catholic, Toms River, where she also directed the spring musicals for 14 years, designed sets and costumes, painted scenery, founded and directed the liturgical drama group. She served as a Girl Scout leader for many years and she and her husband enjoyed hosting exchange students from Brazil, Japan, Sweden and France.

A member of St. Joseph Parish for 45 years, Mrs. Babuschak had been involved with the Altar-Rosary Society and Flame of Love Prayer Group; a team leader for Pre-Cana and was a co-founder and leader of the CYGNUS youth group. She also designed and sewed banners and liturgical vestments for St. Joseph Church.

Mrs. Babuschak was predeceased by her parents, Mathias and Irene Weisgarber. In addition to Deacon Babuschak, her husband of 54 years, she is survived by a brother; two sisters; three children, Suzanne (Anthony) Pilozo, Mark (Joji), and Gretchen (Jack) VanHoorelbeke; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or the St. Vincent de Paul Conference in St. Joseph Parish, 685 Hooper Ave., Toms River, N.J. 08753.
