Blood drive honors Daniele family

St. Catharine Parish, Holmdel, will hold its annual blood drive Oct. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Father Scheg Center, 108 Middletown Road.

On May 5, 2011, a parishioner, and soon-to-be mom, Terre Daniele, hemorrhaged after having a cesarean delivery. The joy of giving birth to a healthy baby girl named Tatum was short lived for Terre when she and her husband Mike found themselves fighting for Terre’s life. She received 15 units of blood and two units of plasma that night. Without the quantity of blood and plasma available, mother and daughter would never have known each other’s love.

The Daniele’s shared their story with their parish family in hopes that they would inspire the parishioners and their families to donate at the blood drive that fall. Since 2011 the parish has honored the Daniele family with its annual blood drive. Terre acknowledged her gratitude for “everyone that donates blood. It saves lives and keeps families together.” The Daniele’s urge everyone to come out and support the blood drive.

Donors must present signature ID, drink water before donating
and be healthy, 16 years of age, with parental consent and weigh at least 120 pounds. Appointments are helpful, but not necessary. To make an appointment, call Gay Viggiano at 732-671-3347.
