Students in summer religious education programs in St. Joseph Parish, Toms River, were all smiles July 11 as Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., joined the children and parish catechists for Mass.

“Never stop learning,” the Bishop encouraged the young Catholics during his homily. “We come together in religious education so that we can know the Lord Jesus, so that we can live like the Lord Jesus!”

The parish, which has more than 600 students enrolled in its summer religious education program, welcomed Bishop O’Connell, who celebrated Mass, as well as Franciscan Father Gabriel Zeis, diocesan vicar for Catholic education. Father Zeis and Father Gerald Johnson, parish parochial vicar, concelebrated.

The visit was the first of two the Bishop will make during July with summer religious education students in the Diocese.
