Baccalaureate Mass and Honors Convocation in Holy Cross High School, Delran
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
The auditorium of Holy Cross High School, Delran was filled with proud family, friends and relatives eager to see the students of the class of 2014 take their first steps into adulthood May 28 during the annual baccalaureate Mass and Honors Convocation. The burgundy and white gowned students, many wearing medals signifying their academic achievement, processed down the aisles to take their seats at the liturgy celebrating the Ascension of the Lord.
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., told the students that, just as the apostles’ lives changed after Christ’s Resurrection, theirs would as their high school careers drew to a close, calling the timing of the Mass a “wonderful coincidence.”
“Christ’s Ascension was the apostles’ graduation. It was up to them to continue Jesus’ work on earth,” the bishop noted. “Your time in high school enabled you to grow in faith and inherit the message of today’s feast.” Bishop O’Connell urged the students to “believe in Jesus Christ. Go and witness and make a difference by being different, being Christian, good people, honest people, just and fair people, a holy people.”
Following the senior awards ceremony, principal Dennis M. Guida congratulated the students seated before him, noting, “This graduation class has excelled in the 57-year history of Holy Cross High School” by earning $20,832,776 in scholarships and grants.
