'Awakening the Brain' two-day retreat planned
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
St. Anselm Parish, Wayside, will serve as the site of a two-day retreat with Dr. Charlotte Tomaino, a clinical neuropsychologist and author of Awakening the Brain Oct. 24 from 7-9 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. at 1028 Wayside Rd.
On Friday evening, participants will begin a reflective exploration of the brain and nervous system, guided by the wisdom of the Psalms – for a new perspective on their own life – the connection of the brain with the health of the body, emotions and spirit.
On Saturday, following Morning Prayer, the focus will be on how participants can open themselves to access healing of their entire being. Useful insights will be offered into utilizing spiritual and mental practices to become more conscious of the Spirit of God within each one of them.
Participants will learn how to use spiritual practices for reaching a deeper inner state of peace; how to form positive mindsets, birthed from the heart’s desire and guided by grace; how to read the “brain-body compass” for guidance on when and how to take action, and how to make grace-guided choices that will nurture the relationship with God.
Dr. Tomaino is a clinical neuropsychologist with 30 years of experience. She is dedicated to helping patients develop practical solutions for the traumatic loss of brain function or the developmental challenges they face. As she worked with patients over time, she began to witness the power of the human spirit to overcome the seemingly impossible and was inspired to focus her career on the effects of thought and spirituality on the physical brain. She is a full-time clinician in private practice in White Plains, N.Y.
Music and ritual for the two days will be provided by Carol and Roger Pisani of the Institute for Liturgical and Spiritual Formation.
Fee is $55 and includes dessert reception on Friday and light breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Send payment to the Institute for Liturgical Formation, P.O. Box 744 Mount Holly, N.J. 08060; call 609-702-7585 or visit ilftrek@com/ilsf.
