Arun Gandhi to deliver message of peace at Georgian Court University April 9
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Few names in world history evoke the power of integrity, courage, social harmony, and compassion as Gandhi. And few people live with the influence and responsibility of iconic leader's legacy like Dr. Arun Gandhi, the 80-year-old grandson of legendary peace advocate and spiritual giant Mohandas ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi.
Dr. Arun Gandhi, a former journalist and a proponent of nonviolent activism for peace and social justice, will visit Georgian Court University April 9 to share his riveting and unique reflections on the personal and historical legacy of his grandfather. This presentation, entitled, ‘Lessons from My Grandfather – Nonviolence in a Violent World,’ will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Casino auditorium on GCU’s Lakewood, NJ campus, and the cost to attend is $5 per person; the event is free to the GCU community with school ID. Reservations are required.
Dr. Gandhi’s message echoes his grandfather’s timelessly relevant calls for understanding between adversaries, social harmony through communication and cooperation, the eradication of global poverty, peaceful interactions among nations, and nonviolence above all in the resolution of international conflicts, immigration debates, terrorism, and religious, political, and ideological differences that threaten our future as national and global citizens.
He is the founder of the Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute, which promotes community building in economically depressed areas of the world, and is the author several books, including Legacy of Love: My Education in the Path of Nonviolence (2003), Forgotten Woman: The Untold Story of Kastur Gandhi, Wife of Mahatma Gandhi (2008), and Grandfather Gandhi (2014). Through his writings and lectures Dr. Gandhi encourages all people to remember his grandfather’s sage wisdom to “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
