Annual Bishop Reiss Memorial Golf Outing set for June 12

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The Diocesan Department of Development will sponsor the sixth annual Bishop John C. Reiss Memorial Golf Outing June 12 at Spring Lake Golf Club, 901 Warren Ave., Spring Lake Heights, to benefit the Harris Family Charitable Trust for the Aged, Infirmed and Disabled Priests of the Diocese of Trenton.

The day will begin with registration from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., followed by lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The golf tournament will begin with a prayer by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and scramble format. Immediately following the tournament will be dinner and cocktails. Highlights include door prizes, a hole-in-one contest and closest to the pin competition.

In a letter to potential sponsors, Stephen Nicholl, diocesan Director of Development, explained the significance of the outing in bettering the lives of aged, infirm and disabled clergy living at the Diocese of Trenton’s priest retirement residence, Villa Vianney, Lawrenceville.

“This past year there has been a 10 percent increase in retired priests,” Nicholl noted. “With 59 priests currently retired in the diocese, and a projected 34 more scheduled to reach retirement age over the next three years, there is a need to meet the financial expenses projected in supporting our faithful aged, infirmed and disabled priests.

“The Bishop John C. Reiss Memorial golf outing funds the charitable trust that has been critical in funding the escalating costs incurred in the care of these holy and dedicated members of our Church family for many years. Your participation will help maintain the priest’s retirement residence at Villa Vianney, and support the healthcare needs of our retired priests.”

Cost for a foursome is $3,000. Individual golfers are $800 each, and registration includes full use of the locker room, all beverages and gratuities.

To register online, fill out the form at dioceseoftrenton.org/golf, or return completed forms to Diocese of Trenton, 701 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, N.J. 08648. For details, including sponsorship opportunities, contact Alicia Plaag at 609-403-7130 or [email protected].
