Anchor House sponsors events aimed at preventing child abuse

In recognition of April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Anchor House, Inc., a ministry of the diocesan social service network, will hold two programs in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, aimed at helping families build healthy relationships and environments for their children.
The programs are “A Child’s Voice and Right to say ‘No’”on April 18 and “Healthy Relationships: Kids are what they see”on April 25. Both programs will be held in the School of Nursing’s Crean Auditorium from 5 – 7 p.m.
Anita D. Wemple, senior program coordinator of the center for nonprofit management and governance for the School of Social Work in Rutgers University, will be the guest speaker for the April 18 event. Social worker Megan Tantum, a children’s specialist, will present on April 25.
Established in 1983 by presidential proclamation, Child Abuse Prevention month promotes activities that call for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
Anchor House, which works with runaway and abused children and their families, offers a network of programs aimed at stabilizing their crises and improving family relationships. Services include the Anchor House Shelter, a 24-hour program for runaway, homeless and at-risk youth, ages 10 – 17; hotline and crisis intervention; temporary housing, transportation and recreation; counseling, advocacy and referrals.
