A Unifying Holy Card
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
The icon and accompanying prayer, both of which are shown above, form a holy card that’s to serve as a spiritual aid as the faithful of OLPH and St. Agnes parishes work toward unifying their two communities.
Father William Lago, who will become pastor of the newly created Our Lady of Perpetual Help-St. Agnes Parish, effective July 1, and Dominican Sister of Hope Monica Socinski, explained that the icon is based on Jesus’ words, “I am the vine and you are the branches” from John 15:5 and reflects the relationship between humanity and Jesus. The image uses the vine and branches motif to bring together many Gospel themes and scenes in which Jesus calls people to be his followers.
Sister Monica and Father Lago have used the prayer card as an opportunity to help join together as disciples the members of the St. Agnes and OLPH communities. They sat together at the computer and composed the prayer which was prayed during weekend Masses throughout Lent and continues to be prayed through the Easter Season and Pentecost
