A statement on the death of Archbishop Emeritus Peter L. Gerety of Newark

The Diocese of Trenton joins the Archdiocese of Newark and all the dioceses of New Jersey in mourning the loss of retired Archbishop Peter L. Gerety, who died Sept. 19. At 104 years of age, he was the oldest bishop in the world. We give thanks for the gift of his faithful ministry and inspiring legacy in the Province of New Jersey. May God grant him eternal rest.
