Each spring, St. Joseph Grade School, Toms River, music teacher, Debbie Grill, produces a spring concert featuring the students of first and third grades. This year’s patriotic themed concert entitled, ‘A Grateful Nation,’ held May 22, was enhanced by inviting family members and friends of students who are retired or active military.
Third graders performed many songs in salute of the U.S.A. During their performance, 27 proud service members were called by name to the stage and honored for their heroic and outstanding service to our country. The members spanned the various branches of the military and included Dave Gassman, a retired 93-year-old World War II veteran and Dr. Stephen Glawson who was slated to be deployed oversees May 25.
Another 25 service members were mentioned who are either presently deployed or could not attend the performance. The students sang “A Grateful Nation” in honor of the brave Americans.
The first graders donned their Dr. Seuss attire and performed many delightful numbers. The finale featured both grades and the audience paying tribute to America by saluting the flag and singing God Bless America.
