A celebration of history and faith

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. Raphael-Holy Angels Filipino community will host its fifth annual celebration of Flores de May/Santacruzan in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary May 21.

The day will begin in the church at 3500 S. Broad Street, Hamilton, with Mass at 1:30 p.m. Mass celebrants will be Father Leandro Dela Cruz, St. Jerome Parish, West Long Branch; Father Gene Vavrick, St. Anselm Parish, Wayside, and Father John Chang, pastor of the parish; Procession will begin at 3 p.m. and a dinner-dance at 4 p.m. in the parish center.

The festival is a culmination of a month-long celebration of Flores de Mayo/Flowers of May. While honoring the Blessed Mother, the festival is also an historic religious event introduced to the Philippines by Spaniards, and commemorates the discovery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem by Queen Helena and her son, Constantine the Great.

Tickets for the dinner-dance are $30, children 11 years old and under attend free. Tickets can be purchased at the event.  All proceeds will benefit projects and needs of the Filipino community, the parish, the poor and street children and victims of calamities in the Philippines and to preserve the celebration for future years.

For tickets or information, call Jay Janolo at 609-540-0992 or Ariel Villarin at 609-808-7642.
