Columbus Day was celebrated in a colorful and grandiose way in the City of Trenton thanks to Our lady of the Angels Parish, the Honorary Vice Consul Emerita and Consular Correspondent, Gilda Rorro Baldassari, the New Jersey Italian and Italian-American Heritage Commission, the Ocean County Columbus Day Parade Committee and the Trenton Council, Knights of Columbus.

On Oct. 13, the festivities began with a Mass celebrated by Father Caesar Rubiano, administrator, in St. Joachim Church, a worship site of Our Lady of the Angels Parish. After the Mass, the congregation gathered in front of the church to watch a dance performance presented by folklore group, Amixi de Boggiasco e del Golfo del Paradiso from Boggiasco, Genova. Accompanying the group was a visitor from the region of Genova who is a purported direct descendant of the navigator, Mario Colombo.
The 2014 commemoration of Christopher Columbus was regarded as being the most culturally inclusive in the City of Trenton as it was the first time in the event’s 13-year-history, the Italian and Italian-American population was joined by representatives of the African American, Haitian and Latino Communities.
