2016 Respect Life contest winners announced

Videos, essays and posters illustrate 'Every Life is Worth Living'
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grades in Catholic schools, religious education programs and youth groups found creative ways to show their respect for life as they participated in the Diocese of Trenton’s annual Respect Life Poster, Essay and Video Contest.

The students were challenged to illustrate a poster, write an essay or create a video with the theme “Every Life is Worth Living,” designated by the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops for Respect Life Month in October.

Entries were grouped by grade level: kindergarten through second grade, third
through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade. After being judged on the parish or school level, the top entries were selected, then sent to the Department of Pastoral Care’s Respect Life Ministry for diocese-level judging. Each parish or school was asked to submit one winning poster, essay or video per grade level category.

Fifteen Catholic schools and nine parish religious programs submitted a total of
79 posters, 28 essays and 17 videos to the contest. Winners in each category were awarded with cash prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Awards will be presented after the annual Respect Life Mass to be held in St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Red Bank, March 5 at 9 a.m.
