Sister Josephine Harty, served in Trenton Diocese for 16 years

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 2 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Josephine Harty, who died July 29. She was 78.

Born in Dungarvan County, Ireland, Sister Josephine, the former Alice Harty, entered the congregation in 1961 and professed her first vows in 1964.

Serving primarily in the ministry of education, Sister Josephine spent 36 years in the Archdiocese of Boston and 16 years in the Diocese of Trenton, teaching in St. Anthony School and McCorristin Catholic High School, both Hamilton; Blessed Sacrament School, Trenton, and Corpus Christi School, Willingboro. In 2016, she moved to the Philadelphia area and served the archdiocese as a volunteer in both Our Lady of Angels Convent and Assisi House.

Sister Josephine is survived by two nieces, a nephew, a grand-niece and grandnephews and her Franciscan family.

Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston.

Memorial donations can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, Pa. 19014.
