During a Mass of Ordination, Bishop O’Connell ordained Rev. Mr. Nicholas Robert Alsecio and Rev. Mr. Benedict Bien Quiambao as transitional deacons. Both men are expected to be ordained priests for the Diocese next year.
In his homily, Bishop O’Connell said the Mass was a time to recall the work of the apostles who, more than 2,000 years ago, “began the community of faith that is the Catholic Church.”
“We come for a holy purpose: to ordain these two men to the Holy Order of Deacon,” the Bishop said. “They have prayed and listened and learned what that order and rank means and what it requires of them. The Order that they seek was born out of the needs of those first apostles to serve the community of faith in very practical ways.”
