Deacon Thomas F. X. Loughran of St. Peter Parish, Point Pleasant Beach, dies
Deacon Thomas F.X. Loughran, a lifelong member of St. Peter Parish, Point Pleasant Beach, died March 16 in his home in Brick after a lengthy illness. He was 84.
Funeral serviceswere held March 19 with visitation taking place from 2-7 p.m. in Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 20 at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church, 406 Forman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. Entombment followed in St. Anne Cemetery, Wall Township.
Deacon Loughran was born in Jersey City and grew up in Point Pleasant Beach and was an active member of St. Peter Parish since 1944 where as a youngster was an altar boy then went on to serve as a reader, usher, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
He graduated from St. Peter School and Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1960. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1960-1963 as Private First Class and was a part of the Cuban Missile Crisis during his time as a Marine. After he returned from the service he attended Ocean County College and later graduated from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, with a degree in business administration. His work experience included being a data processing specialist at Torwico in Lakewood; Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, and then he worked for many years at AT& T in Bedminster from where he retired, and then worked for CMC Consults in Howell.
Once retired, Deacon Loughran entered the diocesan diaconate program and was ordained a deacon May 9, 2009 by Bishop John M. Smith in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton, and was assigned to serve in St. Peter Parish.
Deacon Loughran served his community including as a volunteer firefighter at the Point Pleasant Beach Fire House, a volunteer at Point Pleasant Hospital ER, and as a volunteer EMT with the Herbertsville First Aid Squad.
Deacon Loughran was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and two great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Loughran; three daughters: Kathleen E. Loughran; Colleen A. McAndrew and Patrician Lynn Loughran; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, a brother; sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
