Franciscan Sister Nora Nash, who served in schools in the Diocese of Trenton for more than 30 years, died Jan. 30 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa. She was 83.
Funeral services are scheduled for Feb. 10 in Assisi House with a Christian wake service from 9:30-11 a.m. at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Born in Cahernagh, Ballyhahill County Limerick, Ireland, Sister Nora, formerly Sister Therese Mary, entered the congregation in Mallow in 1958 and professed first vows in 1961. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in social sciences form Our Lady of Angels College, now Neumann University, Aston, Pa., and a master of arts degree in education administration from St. Bonaventure University, St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
Sister Nora served primarily in the ministries of education and social justice work. In the Diocese of Trenton she taught for 18 years in St. Raphael School, Hamilton, and for 15 years, she was principal of St. Gregory the Great School, Hamilton Square. She also served in schools in the Metuchen and Harrisburg Dioceses as well as the Archdiocese of Boston.
Following her ministry in schools, Sister Nora served for 32 years in the Philadelphia Archdiocese including as novice director for her religious community. She then became director of Corporate Social Responsibility, where for 21 years she provided leadership to promote social, ethical and environmental stewardship of her community’s portfolio. After retiring from that role, she continued to work as an advocate for environmental justice before moving to Our Lady of Angels Convent in 2025 where she served in prayer ministry until her death.
Sister Nora is survived by her sister, Mary, as well as two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and her Franciscan family. Interment of ashes will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
