It has been more than a year in the making, but the new website for the Diocese of Trenton’s news outlet, The Monitor, is poised to launch Jan. 19. The transition of TrentonMonitor.com to its new platform will begin Friday evening (Jan. 16) and is expected to be completed by Monday (Jan. 19).
Rayanne Bennett, the Diocese’s executive director of Communications and Media, explained, “The Monitor first launched a website in 2009 and a good bit of the content posted over the past 16 years has been retained. As a result, this is a very large migration project. We have worked toward a smooth process, but we recognize that it may take a number of days or even a week or more to address unexpected issues that may come up.”
According to Bennett, TrentonMonitor.com will not be available while this transition takes place. Users visiting the site before the transfer is complete might get an ERROR message.
“We have worked to create a more visually engaging site that provides readers with easily accessible options from the home page. The new format will accommodate an expanded number of stories and photos posted each day by The Monitor team,” Bennett said.
She added that the new site will include some content that is available to all users on an unlimited basis – such as messages from Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.; key diocesan news and other priority reports. Other content will be unlimited for subscribers only and available to non-subscribers on a limited basis. More information will be posted on this following the launch.
A new log-in process will be in place for subscribers and will require an email address connected to the subscription. If you are a subscriber and have never received email notifications from The Monitor but would like to have unlimited access to the new website, please send your email address to Monitor-Subscriptions@dioceseoftrenton.org. If your email has recently changed, please provide the updated email address to The Monitor.
Bennett said, “We kindly ask that you are patient while we work to present you with a new and improved experience of reading your Catholic news online on a 24/7 basis. We trust that the results will be worth any temporary delays.”
She added, “Thank you for all you do to support the work of The Monitor. We value each and every reader.”
To submit questions or requests for assistance, please write to Monitor-Subscriptions@dioceseoftrenton.org or dotcomm@dioceseoftrenton.org. Your emails will be returned beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20 following the Monday holiday.
