Palm Sunday is poised to begin Holy Week on a very different note this year for countless Catholics. Because of the coronavirus, instead of actually attending the beloved liturgies of the week, they’ll be welcomed to virtual services around the Diocese, nation and world.
It’s been hard to wrap my mind around that concept, but over the past few weeks – and in consultation with some very good friends – a personal emergency virtual plan has evolved. It includes watching livestream Masses together with friends who are in their own homes, praying the Rosary and reciting the Stations of the Cross in a similar fashion, and joining with them spiritually in prayer at appointed times of the day.
Now as Holy Week arrives, the plan has expanded into the food realm, which is a very good thing because it’s hard to bear the thought of not following one of the longest liturgies of the year with a traditional seafood dinner.
Palm Sunday will see the family sharing seafood dinners in our own homes as we chat over the internet and phone. For this special event, I thought the kids might like something like a burger that meets the traditional Mediterranean mandate for fish.
Because at least two of the little ones in my family like to cook and are old enough to do so with supervision, I’m emailing them an easy and quite tasty recipe for tuna burgers. If the adults chose to partake, they can top the burgers with lemon and dill sauce. The kids can (and will) top them with anything they like.

All-powerful, eternal God, You have chosen to give mankind a model of humility; our Savior took on our flesh, and subjected Himself to the Cross. Grant us the grace to preserve faithfully the lessons He has given us in his Passion and to have a share in His Resurrection. This we ask of You through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son.
