Teens from the youth ministry of St. Ann Parish, Lawrenceville, spent the last month of summer vacation helping their young counterparts in faith learn more about the world.
During the parish’s summer camp in August, the teens served as volunteers and leaders as children from kindergarten through sixth grade worked to worship Jesus through crafts, lessons and activities.
Under the theme, “We Will Fly with Jesus,” the children were given “passports” and went on a worldwide tour by learning about different countries, continents, oceans and more. The teens created posters, each of which featured fun facts from a country such as its flag and foods. The children also learned about Catholic cathedrals and basilicas in places such as Spain and Italy.
Through such activities, the camp offered teens an opportunity to learn, too.
“They learn that by modeling for young kids, they are building their own faith in a fun way,” said MaryAnn Raccosta, parish coordinator of youth ministry. “While the campers explore the world and all of God’s creation, the teens recall their personal commitment to living the Word. As they teach, ‘Come follow me,’ they are building the next generation of followers of Christ.”
