St. James Parish, Red Bank, celebrated Easter weekend and the Resurrection of the Lord with joy and prayer – and some divine inspiration, too.
After six weeks of collecting Legos, the parish has unveiled its Calvary scene, complete with a large Jesus made entirely of the building blocks.
Since the beginning of Lent, the parish’s youth and young adult ministries had been asking for Lego donations with the stipulation that a prayer be offered for each Lego given. The aim of Project Resurrection, as the effort was called, was to bring children and families closer to prayer and the parish during Lent, ending with the youth and young adults working to create a Calvary scene for Easter weekend.
But thanks to some artistic input from Father Ariel Robles, parochial vicar, it would appear that Project Resurrection took on a life of its own.
Father Robles and parishioners have a history of displaying their artistic skills in the church. Over the years, the church’s Nativity display has grown to include two mangers – one made from tongue depressors, the other from plastic spoons. This past Christmas, the parish church was added to the Nativity display – built from some 2,000 tongue depressors.
