October brings many opportunities to celebrate, deepen and publicly witness the Catholic faith. The October issue of The Monitor Magazine highlights the people and events bringing that faith to life throughout the Diocese of Trenton and beyond.
On our cover, two participants in this year’s March for Life in Trenton hold signs that send a clear message: “Equal rights for babies in the womb.” Special coverage of the third annual Mass, Rally and March for Life highlights the liturgy in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral celebrated by New Jersey’s Catholic bishops and attended by some 1,000 faithful in support of the dignity of every human life.
In his monthly message, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., reflects on October’s many observances, including the Month of the Holy Rosary, Respect Life Month, the Jubilee Year of St. Francis of Assisi, World Mental Health Day and World Mission Sunday. He encourages the faithful to embrace these occasions through prayer, reflection and action.
The new issue also includes expanded coverage of the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, one of the most influential Catholic evangelists in American history. The issue looks back on his life and legacy, as well as a special Mass marking the 107th anniversary of his priestly ordination that included participation by a priest of the Diocese.
The Monitor’s annual HIGH SCHOOL SHOWCASE introduces families to Catholic high schools in the Diocese, offering information about each school’s mission, academics, programs, tuition and upcoming open houses.
In observance of World Mission Sunday Oct. 18, which is marking its centennial this year, the Diocese’s Mission Office publishes its annual report and calls attention to this year’s theme “One in Christ, United in Mission.”
