Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., was principal celebrant and homilist of the Mass for Father Conover, who was the longtime pastor of the Freehold parish. Father Conover died Aug. 28 at age 77.
“There is something particularly poignant about celebrating the funeral of a priest in the church where he so often stood at this altar, preached the Gospel, celebrated the Eucharist, baptized children, witnessed marriages, heard confessions, anointed the sick and commended the dead to God,” Bishop O’Connell said. “Today, the priest who so often prayed these prayers for others is the one for whom we now pray.”
