Deacon Kevin Joseph O’Boyle, who ministered in Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Hamilton, and served as a deacon of the Diocese for 23 years, died April 1. He was 69.
Funeral services will be held in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3816 East State St. Ext., Hamilton, beginning with a Rite of Reception and viewing on April 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated April 21 at 11 a.m.
Deacon O’Boyle was born in 1956 in Orange. He graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School before going on to Seton Hall University, South Orange, where he earned five degrees. He worked as the vice president of product development for Munich Reinsurance America. Following his retirement, he continued to work in product development and as a management consultant.
In 1999, Deacon O’Boyle entered the diocesan diaconate formation program and was ordained May 10, 2003 by Bishop John M. Smith in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton.
Having lifelong involvement in Scouting and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, Deacon O’Boyle, was a chartered organization representative for Boy Scouting at the parish level for more than 20 years. At the parish he was also active with many ministries including the parish finance council, liturgy committee, marriage preparation, OCIA and he was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Deacon O’Boyle is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Beth O’Boyle; four sons and three daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; two sisters; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members and relatives.
A private burial will be in St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit.
