Husbands and wives in the Trenton Diocese will have an opportunity this Lent to participate in a special Stations of the Cross for Married Couples on March 27 in St. Dominic Church, Brick.
Hosted by the diocesan Department of Evangelization and Family Life, the Stations will begin about 7:45 p.m., following the parish Mass that starts at 7.
The Stations are based on a book from Magnificat Press, “The Way of the Cross for Couples,” which are designed to be prayed by couples. The texts, songs and meditations differ from the traditional praying of the Stations of the Cross allowing couples to focus in a special way on their relationship, according to Nick Petrillo, associate director of Marriage Ministries and NFP.
Petrillo noted that while anyone can participate, even if they are not married, it is most impactful for those who are.“Marriage is a journey of sanctification of both spouse and self, and it is through the crosses of life and marriage that we become more like Christ,” he said. “Praying the Stations together allows couples to remember the journey they are both on, together, to seek to be reconciled for their failures, and to support on another in our journey.”
After praying the Stations, couples will have an opportunity to renew their vows.
