It may not have been the most comfortable night’s sleep, but then again, that was the point.
In an effort to learn more about homelessness, 35 youngsters in grades six through nine created their own cardboard box shelters and spent the night Aug. 24 outside St. Anselm Church, Wayside. Part of the parish’s junior youth group, the youngsters were joined by 12 adult chaperones.
During the parish’s second Cardboard Box City event, the youngsters shared a meal, learned about the common causes of homelessness and what they could do to help.
