Meals on Wheels of Mercer County (formerly Meals on Wheels of Trenton/Ewing) is a private, non-profit organization that provides nutritious meals and related services which are designed to promote the independence, dignity, health and well-being of homebound customers. Meals are delivered to homebound individuals in the Mercer County area with the help of a large group of committed volunteers. Customers may receive one hot meal, and an additional cold meal per day.
Meals on Wheels of Mercer County delivers meals Monday through Friday each week. Meal delivery is the primary volunteer opportunity which requires up to a two hour commitment for each volunteer day. A typical route can last anywhere between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.
Volunteers deliver meals in pairs. “Teams” of volunteers, such as husband/ wife teams or longtime friends or one-time volunteer groups from the area companies and organizations for a day of service are encouraged to apply.
Other volunteers can serve support to office staff by packing nonperishable groceries, working on mailings and newsletters and answering phones. Office volunteers would need to be available during 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Potential volunteers must provide two references and there is no age limit for applicants; however it is required that a parent or guardian accompany children under the age of 18 in any volunteer capacity. Drivers must have valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
Training is provided for all new volunteers. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, call 609-695-3483 or email info@mealsonwheelsmercer.org.
