St. Leo the Great School, Lincroft, celebrated Catholic Schools Week with fun, charity and a lesson in saintliness.
On Jan. 31, Franciscan Father Gabriel Zeis, diocesan vicar for Catholic Education, led the school community in a celebration of Mass. In his homily, Father Zeis pointed to St. John Bosco and St. Teresa of Avila as examples for the students to live by as they “trust God and his path for us.”
Following Mass, the school welcomed parents and family members to visit and observe the children in their classrooms. On Feb. 1, the school’s PTA honored the faculty and administration with a catered breakfast and lunch and special treatment throughout the day.
The week ended Feb. 3 with a Student Appreciation Day, also dubbed “Souperbowl Friday.” Students were invited to dress in their favorite team’s colors and asked to donate to the parish’s food pantry. More than 600 canned foods were collected.
In addition, students were treated to a magician, video game bus, extra gym time and an ice cream social.
