Burlington County Parks System offers volunteer participants opportunities to learn, share their interests and skills and help to protect and preserve natural, cultural and historical resources.
Special arrangements can be made to accommodate groups of 20 or more, including corporate groups and service organizations. Other volunteer offerings include those for students interested in earning community service hours.
Current volunteer art-related opportunities include: art gallery assistants, teen arts festival assistants, children’s crafts.
History-related needs include assisting with special events and decorating at the Smithville Mansion and Village. In the Historic Prison Museum, volunteers can help serve as history guides for leading tours; with special events and large groups, inventory/gift shop maintenance and research, setting up and dismantling of displays and technical help.
Ecological/Landscape Needs: Removal of invasive species, removal of litter, trail maintenance, general maintenance/yard work, planting, watering, weeding and other gardening duties.
Natural Science Monitoring: Bird surveys for winter bird counts, seasonal frog surveys in spring and early summer, nest box monitoring in spring and early summer and reporting of data.
Annual Festivals – Earth fair in June, Arts in the Park in September, Fall Float Festival in October, Victorian Holiday in December.
