This coming weekend, parishes of the Diocese of Trenton will join congregations around the world in marking World Mission Sunday.
Father Peter James Alindogan, diocesan mission director, will mark the Diocese of Trenton’s observance of World Mission Sunday when he celebrates Mass at 9 a.m. Oct. 23 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a worship site of Mother of Mercy Parish, Asbury Park, located at 805 Pine Street.
Organized by the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. Parishioners will be asked to offer prayers and contributions during Masses the weekend of Oct. 22 and 23.
“On this 90th World Mission Sunday, our diocesan family joins our brothers and sisters around the world who will gather at the Lord’s Table to celebrate, with great joy, our common vocation as missionaries,” Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., wrote in a letter to his flock. “Our prayers and financial help, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, support the work of the Mission Church, its witness to Christ and service to the poor.”
